Finn · Last updated

The short version: you can play Finn as a guest, and your game lives on your device. What leaves your device is usage analytics that help me improve the game, a summary of each run you complete, and, if you sign in, your progress. Finn has no real trading, no real money in the market, and never sells your data. If you want everything erased, there is a button for it in your Profile.

What stays on your device

Finn needs no account to play. Your active game, trades, portfolio, progress, achievements, and settings are stored on your device. Deleting the app removes it.

Analytics, so I can improve the game

Finn uses PostHog to understand how the game is played: which screens people open, which modes they finish, where they get stuck, and where they quit. I use it to make Finn better. It is never sold, and it is never used to target advertising.

What each analytics event carries:

  • Gameplay facts: the mode you are playing, your level, energy, streak, campaign progress, and star count.
  • In-game actions: trades placed (including the real ticker symbol of the stock, the quantity, and the simulated price), stocks you favourite, days advanced, challenges and Academy lessons started and finished, achievements unlocked, chests opened, and coins earned or spent. All of this money is simulated.
  • Your device: manufacturer, model name, operating system and version, screen size, language, time zone, and the app version and build.
  • A player identifier. If you play as a guest, this is a random identifier generated on your device and tied to no account. If you sign in with Apple, analytics is keyed to your Finn account identifier instead, the same one your saved progress uses. Either way it is never your name and never an advertising ID, and signing out returns you to a fresh anonymous identifier.

What it never carries: anything you type. Your trader name, your Apple name, and your email are never sent to analytics.

PostHog is hosted in the European Union. Like any web request, your device’s IP address reaches PostHog’s servers, and PostHog may derive an approximate country or city from it. Finn does not collect GPS or precise location, and does not ask for location permission.

Analytics run only in released builds, never in development.

If you sign in (optional)

You can play forever without signing in. If you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple shares your name and email address with Finn. You can hide your real address with Apple’s Private Relay. Your name is stored with your account so it can appear on your profile.

Signing in also syncs your progress to a database so it survives reinstalls and follows you across devices: your profile (trader name, avatar, level, XP), completed-run summaries, campaign progress, energy, unlocked eras, cosmetics, achievements, streaks, and inventory. Your active, in-progress game stays on your device and is never uploaded.

Playing as a guest still creates an anonymous account behind the scenes so your completed runs can be recorded. It carries no name, no email, and nothing that identifies you personally.

Leaderboards and tournaments

Finn has no public leaderboard or tournaments yet. Your completed-run results can be read only by your own account.

When tournaments launch, entries will be public. This policy will say exactly what gets published before that happens, and the “last updated” date above will change.

Your email address, your Apple name, and your in-progress games are never published.

Ads

If Finn offers you a rewarded ad, an optional video you can watch in exchange for energy or coins, it is served by Google AdMob, which becomes a recipient of data from your device including your IP address and an advertising identifier.

On iOS you will be asked, through Apple’s standard prompt, whether Finn may track you across other companies’ apps and websites. If you decline, ads still work. They are simply less personalised. You are never required to watch an ad, and declining costs you nothing but the optional reward.

You can change your tracking choice at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy and Security, then Tracking. Turning it off makes ads less personalised. It never removes them, and it never costs you a reward.

Where privacy law requires it, you will also be asked for advertising consent before any ad loads. Finn is not sold in the European Union, but equivalent rules apply in places where it is sold, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. Where that applies, you can change your choice later in Settings.

Purchases

Finn may offer coin packs for real money. Those purchases are processed entirely by Apple or Google. Finn never sees your card number, bank details, or billing address. The store tells the app only that a purchase succeeded, so the coins can be granted. Coins are in-game currency with no cash value and cannot be exchanged for money.

Finn is a simulator. There is no real trading, no brokerage account, and no real money in the market.

The AI analyst and the coach

Finn’s in-game AI analyst and coach run entirely on your device. Your questions and their answers are processed locally and are never sent to me or to any server.

App updates

Finn delivers over-the-air updates through Expo. Checking for an update sends your device’s IP address, app version, and operating-system version to Expo’s servers, solely to deliver the right update.

Market data

Every historical price, financial statement, and news headline in Finn is bundled with the app rather than fetched live, and real companies appear under fictional names. It is for education and entertainment. Nothing in Finn is investment advice.

Deleting your data

  • On your device: delete the app. That removes your local progress, saves, and settings.
  • Everything, including the server: Profile → Delete Account (shown once you are signed in). This permanently removes your account and all progress, profile, and completed-run data associated with it. It cannot be undone.

Analytics events already recorded are pseudonymous and are not linked to your name; if you want those removed as well, email finn@chensagi.com and I will delete them.

Children

Finn is rated 13+ and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, email finn@chensagi.com and I will delete it.

Retention

Server-side data is kept while your account exists, and is deleted when you delete your account. Analytics data is retained for as long as it is useful for product decisions. It is never tied to your name or email, though if you signed in it is keyed to your account identifier.

Your choices

  • Play as a guest to keep your progress on your device. Only analytics and a summary of each completed run leave it.
  • Delete the app to remove everything stored on your device.
  • Delete your account, and everything on the server with it, from your Profile.
  • Decline ad tracking when asked, at no cost to you.

Changes

If these practices change, the “last updated” date above changes with them, and significant changes are announced in the app’s What’s New.
